The permanently free academic tier
Free permanently for students, educators, and researchers.
ebomi is built by a finance professor and run in the spirit of open science. There is no card, no trial clock, and no plan to change it.
What the tier includes
- 10 tracked companies. Of your own choosing, alongside the standard always-in list. Enough for a course project or a research watchlist.
- Instant email alerts. The same pipeline paid subscribers use, with a link to the source filing on every alert.
- The statistical context layer. As the research analytics ship, academic accounts get the full version.
- Free forever. Verified academic status renews annually at no cost.
In return we ask one thing. If ebomi supports published work, please cite the underlying open dataset.

doi:10.1038/s41597-023-02147-6Who qualifies
Students, faculty, and staff at accredited universities and colleges, teachers and educators at other accredited institutions, and researchers with a current institutional affiliation. Coverage is worldwide, not limited to .edu domains, and faculty qualify on the same footing as students.
How verification works
- Sign in to your ebomi account, or create one first from the home page.
- Give us your university email address. We send a single-use link there.
- Open the link. Reaching the mailbox is the proof, so that is the whole check, and your institution comes from the address rather than from anything you type. If you already signed in with your university address, there is nothing to send and access turns on at once.
- Academic access lasts one year, after which the same one-click check renews it.
If you later take a paid plan, the paid plan applies while the subscription is active, and your academic access resumes automatically when it ends. You never need to verify twice within the same year.
Addresses are matched against a vendored snapshot of the open swot academic-domain list, so a very new or unlisted institution may not be recognized even though it is genuinely academic. That case goes to a human, which is slower and honestly so: there is one reviewer, so allow several days, and we are happy to add missing institutions. We store the domain you verify, not the mailbox: the full address lives only as long as the link does and is dropped the moment you use it.
